Solid Carbide Screw Machine Length Stub Drill from M.A. Ford. Sold under the trade name Twister© GP, these screw machine length drills are available in numeric sizes #1-60. Each screw drill bit is designed with two helical flutes having 21 degrees as its helix angle. This construction type goes on to offer faster chip ejection and provide stable drilling conditions. The self-centering 118 degrees split point goes on to further improve penetration, especially on softer materials. The drill bits have a straight shank for easy holding. The base material used to make the drill bit is solid carbide with 10% cobalt and the cutting area is uncoated. Shallower holes are easily drilled due to the screw bit's inherent shorter lengths. The shorter total overall and flute length allows the product to be used in tight spaces and for portable drilling applications that require rigidity. The shorter flute length mitigates deflection, breakage, and runout. It makes it optimum to use on cast iron, steel, and non-ferrous workpieces. M.A. Ford has developed an enviable global reputation in tooling design and manufacturing over the last 100 years. The company is well-known for its performance and precision in advanced solid carbide tooling, serving over 60 countries worldwide. The innovative cutting geometries, materials, and coating technologies provide effective manufacturing solutions to a diverse range of industries from agriculture and construction to aerospace, power generation, and automotive.
Benefits
- Shorter overhang reduces deflection and vibration and increases drill accuracy and improves tool life.
- Designed to allow high feed rates with good chip flow.
- Four facet drill points minimize drill wander and assures accurately sized holes.
- The 118-degree bit cuts more aggressively and is generally used for drilling into soft material.
- Two flute design offers faster feed and larger material removal rates.
- Low thrust design allows for easier penetration.
- Lower helix angle of 21-degree offers enhanced strength, reduced lifting, and larger chip evacuation.
- Cobalt is harder than high-speed steel and is suited for better wear resistance.
Applications
- For machining operations in screw machines.
- Short lengths offer increased rigidity for machine drilling a variety of materials & alloys.
- Recommended for drilling mild steel, cast iron, aluminum, bronze, and magnesium alloys, and other abrasive but easily machined materials.
Features
- Twister© GP series screw machine length drills.
- Tool made from solid micrograin carbide 10% cobalt, uncoated drills.
- Low thrust design: 118° self-centering split point.
- 2 flute, 21° helix construction.
- Straight shank for universal compatibility.
